Texture refers to the perceived surface quality in a work of art. It ranges from the smoothest polished mirror to the roughest mountain range as seen from an airplane. Texture is one of the seven elements of art. There are two categories of artistic textures : Tactile and Visual.

Fundamentally, the materials used give texture to a piece of art. That may be clay, metal, sand, wood etc. Here I’m gonna tell you simple ways to create some really appealing textures using the most easily available and affordable material i.e fevicol.

Let’s get started!

TECHNIQUE 1

What you’ll need:

• Paper
• Fevicol
• Acrylic paint
• Wooden stick/any object with a pointy end
• Brush/dropper

Step 1 :

Squeeze out the fevicol on your paper surface. Keep pouring it till you cover the whole area (leaving tiny little spaces here and there would also do).

Step 2 :

Using a brush/dropper put acrylic paint over the fevicol layer drop by drop leaving a couple of inches of space between them.

I’d suggest you to use two or more colours.

# Make the right choice of colour combinations to make it look more attractive.

Step 3 :

Now take the wooden stick and create patterns by slowly stirring the two in circular motions . Keep doing this till you develop an overall appealing texture.

Step 4 :

Leave it to dry. Might take 25-40 minutes depending on the amount of fevicol you applied.

And… You’re done!

TECHNIQUE 2

What you’ll need:

1. Paper
2. Fevicol
3. A small piece of cardboard
4. Wooden stick
5. Acrylic paint
6. Brush/dropper

Steps 1 and 2 are the same.

Step 3 :

Now use the edge of the cardboard piece to move it over the mixture in one direction.

(you can even stop here)

Step 4 :

After 30-40 seconds, using the wooden stick mildly scratch it till you develop a nice texture. Then leave it to dry.

# You can even use a comb to create patterns.

And… You’re done!

TECHNIQUE 3

What you’ll need

1. Paper
2. Fevicol
3. Baby powder
4. Glitter paint/powder
5. Brush
6. Bowl

Step 1 :

Mix fevicol, glitter paint/powder and baby powder in a bowl.

Step 2 :

Using a brush dab the mixture on the paper. Create thick layers without leaving any white space behind. Leave it to dry.

And… You’re done!
